We recently interviewed fantasy artist, David Penfound, designer of numerous Mountain t-shirts for the Mountain’s new blog. Read below to learn more about him and our long-lived collaboration with the artist.
Where do you live and why do you decide to call it home?
I Live in Andover, Hampshire in the UK. Its a little market town quite close to Stone Henge. I call this my home as my whole family live within 1 mile of each other.
What inspired your journey to create fantasy art? Was there any particular moment that you realized that it was your path?
I've always love all types of art from the classics to modern. As a child I was obsessed with Boris Vallejo and all fantasy art in general, in my teens I created lots of still-life pictures and enjoyed portrait painting too. As the years went on I came back to my fantasy roots and still enjoy it so much as the subject is infinite.
How did you start collaborating with The Mountain? Do you have any favorite t-shirt(s) that you have designed for us?
I Met Michael McGloin at a New York trade fair many years ago and instantly hit it off. My first pieces of artwork for the Mountain was Native American images and in the 20 years I've been working with The Mountain I have lots of favourites but I think The Big Heads are my favourite range as its a mix of my own creation together with the genius of The Mountain
If your life were a TV program, what would be the theme song?
That's a hard one.....I think It would have to be 'Happy Days'
Who would you invite to your last meal on Earth and why?
My family aside I would have to choose Kurt Cobain and ask him why????
Your website mentions that you were commissioned to create an image for the largest jigsaw puzzle in existence… Just how big was it?!
Unfortunately the record has recently been broken but when it was in production it was for 18240 pieces which would cover the wall of a small sports hall.
