Does this look like a Vietnam War vet turned drifter, who went on an 80's action movie rampage through a small town? No, it doesn’t. That’s probably why Kimberly and Brian decided to change this lovable pup’s name from Rambo to Kirby when they adopted him from Wright Way Rescue in Niles, Illinois.
Kirby was one of eight purebred Golden Retriever pups born on a farm in Kentucky.
Kimberly and Brian had already filled out an adoption application with Wright Way Rescue, in hopes that when they found the right pup, they’d be the first in line. One day, Brian was at work refreshing the rescue’s website every couple of minutes when this furry face popped up.
Within 60 seconds, Kimberly and Brian had reserved a time to meet little “Rambo”.
Kirby made himself at home immediately. “Helping” with the dishes, laundry, and small home repairs by chewing up socks, and digging out holes in the drywall.
Now, Kirby is 105 lbs. of pure fur and personality. However, he still thinks he’s as small as a puppy and often gets stuck trying to fit in or under things. He loves to go swimming at the Montrose Dog beach, and playing with his homedawgs at doggie daycare. One time, he was so excited to go to “school”, he ran head first into the door to the play area.
Kirby was always a fancy kind of pup. Kimberly started dressing him in bowties at a young age, and he never went to a family gathering without looking his most dashing. That’s when the idea of Thrifty Pup began to form, and of course, Kirby would become the brand ambassador.
Now, Thriftypup.com, offers upcycled bowties of all shapes and sizes to fit any kind of dog’s personality, and Kirby can be found front and center on the website, looking as dapper as always, sporting a bowtie from the latest collection.
